The most important fact in the history of «Zaporizhstal» is that all the achievements gained in the 70 years of its activity became possible first of all because of the selfless labour of all generations of workers and engineers of the Works.  |
On December 8, 1947 «Zaporizhstal» was decorated with the Order of Lenin.

The workers of Zaporizhstal can rightfully be proud of the fact that during all the stages of its development and work «Zaporizhstal» was and remains the foremost metallurgical enterprise where, constantly on the basis of the achievements of science and engineering, the technology of the smelting of iron, steel-making and the production of a wide range of steel sheets continues to be improved. The celebrated metallurgists of the elder generation have devoted their entire working life to the Works: I. O. Cymbal, I. M. Syrovatko, P. S. Doroshenko, S. S. Yakimenko, G. A. Yemel’yanenko, A. Y. Kapsheyev, the engineers A. K. Pudiko, A. L. Boborykin, L. L. Solovyev, V. G. Ledkov, K. P. Gulyanitskiy, A. S. Tkachenko, Y. Z. Reznichenko, V. V. Borovskiy, and many, many others.  |
On January 4, 1971 «Zaporizhstal» was decorated with the Order of October Revolution.

Particular attention should be given to the significant contribution to the cause of development of the technical progress of the Works of the former Director L. D. Yupko (1956—1982). He worked out and put into practice the technical solutions connected with the improvement of the blast furnace production and its equipment, technology of the smelting of pig iron, steel-making, including the complex application of natural gas and oxygen. Since 1986 the Director-General of the Works V. A. Satsky has been successfully keeping up the innovative traditions. Managers of the technical services, Works' shops, innovators of production have made a valuable contribution to the technical progress of the Works: V. N. Bytkin, E. P. Bolkunov, G. L. Gurskiy, V. G. Dodoka, V. D. Khelemendik, V. D. Morozov, S. P. Komar, O. N. Shtekhno, V. S. Movshovich, V. T. Tylik, A. D. Andrianchenko, I. A. Kayela, E. P. Proskurin, A. I. Volkov, P. A. Gumenyuk-Gritsay, V. A. Orlov, I. P. Lezhen’ and many others. Among «Zaporizhstal» workers there are 10 Heroes of Socialist Labour, three Lenin prize laureates, 25 state prize laureates. 109 workers have been awarded the title Honoured Metallurgist of Ukraine, 20 — Honoured Industry Worker, 5 — Honoured Transport Worker, 4 — Honoured Power Engineer, more than 250 workers have been awarded the title Metallurgist of Honour. More than 5 thousand «Zaporizhstal» workers have been decorated with Government awards. |
