Working with crude ore, blast-furnace operators experienced difficulties in providing steel makers with pig-iron. The absence of sinter was a great hindrance to increasing production. To solve this problem in August 1951 the sintering plant was commissioned, consisting of 4 sintering machines DO-2-50.

On August 1, 1951, the first Zaporozhye sinter was produced by the team headed by D.A.Voytovskiy; senior sinter operator, I.A.Legostayev (chief-in-change, M.M.Bezotosniy).

In 1955 the limestone crushing department was put into operation, allowing to produce fluxed sinter.

Since 1956 six sintering machines are operating in the sintering shop.

Due to the blast-furnace operators? growing need for sinter, in 1957-1958 the sintering machines underwent reconstruction under the proposal of engineer, A.V. Drimbo. The sintering area on each unit increased from 50 m2 up to 62,5.

In 1963 the designed capacity of the factory has been doubled due to constant improvement of the machines.

1967 was marked by record production of sinter — 6 million 297 thousand tons. However, its low quality and heavy working conditions demanded further reconstruction. Vibratory grids on the reception ore bunkers were installed. The pneumatic crushing system was introduced. Mechanized cleaning of the railway tracks leading to the reception ore bunkers and to the area where sinter is charged, was introduced. Workshops for repair of pallets and vulcanization of belt conveyors were built. And many, many other things were done.

In 1972-1974 the sintering plant of Zaporizhstal maintained the highest labour productivity in the branch of industry, i.e. 15.1 thousand tons of sinter per one worker.

At present capital repair of the sintering machines and the main building of the plant is being done.

A valuable contribution to the development of production is made by: mechanical service chief of the shop, V.G. Gordinskiy; deputy head of the shop on sinter burden, G.P.Krymov; chief of the recycling section of the sintering plant, V.G. Bereza; and also V.I. Boris, L.P. Giliteev, V.L. Krokha, Y.A.Afonin, G.M. Chorniy, V.V. Kravets, A.B. Yerukh, V.P. Pavelko, V.I. Adamov and others.

Today the sintering plant of Zaporizhstal is one of the best among similar sintering plants in Ukraine.
