Zaporizhstal JSC Scientific and Technical Youth Conference: Sintering and blast furnace workshop

News

18.11.2009

After the end of the work of the sintering and blast furnace workshop its manager, main specialist for metallurgical production Alexander Fomenko, exchanged his impressions:

- I am glad that the youth has displayed high activity. The first place among the guests was awarded to the representative of “Dneproenergostal” Vladimir Manidin, who delivered 2 very good reports on gas cleaners developed by this enterprise for Kosogorskiy metallurgical plant (Tula region). One is already working in the sintering plant and the second one is installed on the blast furnace for fine cleaning of blast furnace gas before delivering it for burning. In both gas cleaners a bag filter with a high degree of dust removal is used. The actual content of dust after cleaning the air in the sintering plant does not exceed 20 mg/m3 at normative standard of dust emissions into atmosphere up to 40 mg/m3.

The young specialists of our Works delivered not less interesting reports, giving deep coverage of the subjects.

The first prize was awarded to the gas operator Sergey Sokirko, who thoroughly studied the subject and delivered a report on the system of cooling the blast furnace applying copper coolers in the most stressed zone. The report is based on foreign experience and materials of the Chelyabinsk metallurgical works, where several years ago during reconstruction of the blast furnace a copper coolers’ belt was made. This is a new and very perspective direction in the blast furnace production, which deserves to be applied at our Works too. The second prize was awarded to the engineer of the sintering and blast furnace laboratory of the Central Laboratory of the Works Vladimir Kravchuk. He prepared a large theoretical project on pulverized coal injection into the blast furnaces. The young specialist studied the influence of coal content on the working parameters of the blast furnace, did research work applying information which he brought with him from his last years business trip abroad.

The third prize was awarded to the gas operator of the blast furnace Anton Mandra. He did very serious research work and calculations on the choice of the most rational version of the section profile of blast furnace no.4 because of the changes in its design during restoration repair. The repair of this furnace dictated the applicability.

It was pleasant to hear that all the three winners chose real and practical subjects for their reports. I think that this will be very useful in their future work. The projects of our prize winners Vladimir Kravchuk and Anton Mandra will be recently applied during the introduction of the PCI complex and during repair of blast furnace No.4. Sergey Sokirko’s proposal will surely be applied during the nearest serious reconstruction of the blast furnace.
