A New Life for Old Things: Upcycling Park Was Opened In Zaporizhzhia Region

In “Etnoselo”, in Volnyansk district, non-government organization “Dyvosvit” presented the project “Upcycling Park”. It was possible to create a space where unnecessary things become useful, thanks to the victory in the competition “We Are the City”.

A Swedish wall made of old tires, photo-zones made of construction waste, sports net made from recycled plastic bottles – this is upcycling. In many countries of the world, festivals and fairs devoted to this type of ecological processing are held. Now Zaporizhzhia region has become part of this movement – thanks to non-government organization “Dyvosvіt”, which founded the park. With the support of the competition “We Are the City”, the organization’s team acquired special equipment for upcycling and held the first thematic festival in “Etnoselo”: “A-Fest”.

Inessa Nosenko, Chairman of the Board of “Dyvosvіt” NGO:

“We wanted to show that you can make the necessary things as simple as possible from waste. To encourage people to think that recycling can be relevant, teach them this. For example, the tire can be either garbage, or it can become a Swedish wall or decoration. In addition, upcycling can become a form of self-sufficient human development. We offer children with disabilities to take ideas into service and develop their micro-business souvenir direction. Having hands, having material from garbage, you can do useful and necessary things”.
