A couple of months remained before the biggest sporting event in Zaporizhzhia. On August 4, the second local ZaporizhstalHalfMarathon2018, which would be held on October 28, was presented at the Tourist Information Center of Zaporizhzhia.
Invariably the title sponsor of the event will be the Zaporizhstal Works. The company has a large group of people who are involved in running sports. In the first half marathon, they united in a corporate team which consisted of about 400 people. This year the Works’ employees also plan to take part in the race.
Stating about new events that will be held on the second half marathon, the new manager of Run Ukraine – Dmitry Chernitsky told:
– Zaporizhstal Half Marathon — this is the popularization of mass sports that everyone can practice today. No matter who you are: a student, a worker, a businessman, if you share the values of this big event, then you are already in a team. The half marathon is an event not only for the city, but also for the whole of Ukraine, since it is part of the running league on a par with Kiev, Lviv or Odessa half marathon.
Dmitry also acquainted the guests with the distances that can be run on a half marathon. This is traditionally a distance of 21 km, 5 km – for amateur athletes and 2 km – a charity run. The distance of 10 km this year will be cancelled, but instead of it, relay races appeared for the same distance. There will also be a 500 m race for children. The presentation was made by the youth mayor of Zaporozhye and the leader of the youth organization of Zaporizhstal Works, Sergei Ilchenko, who ran a 10 km distance last year at the marathon:
– This year, in Zaporizhzhia, there have already been so many great events: the Jazzy Fest, just a couple of days ago, the Khortytsia Freedom took place. From sporting events, those were Colorrun and Colorswim. And, honestly, it is good that different events are held in the city, which are in demand by different categories of Zaporizhzhia residents. It is cool that we are moving away from the stereotype that Zaporizhzhia is only an industrial center. As for Zaporizhstal, we will always support the development of sports in Zaporizhzhia.
The importance of holding a sporting event of this magnitude was also confirmed by the Deputy Mayor Anatoly Pustovarov:
– This event was indispensable for our city. Last year, we saw that the city and its residents were ready for the half marathon. This year we carried out “work on mistakes” and the time for blocking roads for transport at the half marathon distance will be significantly reduced compared to last year.Our city needed this event.
