Knowledge available to all and everyone. A ramp appeared at the entrance to the library branch No. 5, in the Zavodsky district of Zaporizhzhia. We installed the structure within the framework of the project “We Are Equals”, with which the library management won the competition “We Are the City”.
Now about 4 thousand inhabitants of the Zavodsky district, with restrictions — families with small children, families raising children with disorders of the musculoskeletal system, people with disabilities — will be able to read literary novelties, favorite classics, and cultural events. They are trying to conduct them in the library regularly. As today – in honor of the opening of the “We Are Equals” project: a mini-concert of Zaporizhzhia talents, interactive for children.
Irina Len, Director of the Zaporizhzhia Central Library System “This library is the only reading center in the Zavodsky district. We have long dreamed of this event. So we took part in “We are the City”. The library has a large number of readers – it is about 6000 residents of the district, a huge fund – almost 47 thousand books, and it is very unfortunate that not all were able to read those books.”
One of the listeners of the mini-concert is Zaporizhzhia poetess Vera Shcherbina. Despite the complicated diagnosis, now a woman will be able to visit her beloved library much more often, where 4 collections of her poetry are stored. According to the head of library No. 5, Marina Kovaleva, the ramp is their old dream. And this is just the beginning of a big change.
Marina Kovaleva, head of the library: “This is the first step towards creating an inclusive library. And we want the library to become truly European. We are trying to work according to the European model of library development, which unites people, information, books and games, to be a full-fledged place of leisure.
They told in the library: they are already waiting for the new season “We are the City” and again hope for a victory. They want to make a sanitary room for people with disabilities, special desks, computers with Braille script. In the meantime, they are preparing to meet new visitors, who will now be able to visit them thanks to the ramp.
