Zaporizhstal Employees Took Part in Mechatronics Competitions

On September 15-16, Interpipe Tech Fest took place in Dnipro city. The technical festival announced a large number of activities, including several competitions: the battle of robots, the championship in computer games, the battle of armies of origami. The Zaporizhstal team performed at mechatronic competitions for the first time.

– So, and here something interesting happens. Guys are building something … but it’s too early for you – a woman with a small child lingers near team number 1, briefly watches the process and leaves.

The first issue fell to us on the draw, and in addition, and the most advantageous place to work – each passing guest of the festival stopped for a minute to see how three participants from Zaporizhstal assemble a prototype of a mechanized machine for the sawmill.

– If you had to name your team, then probably this would be “Domino” (“domennyi tsech” – means “blast furnace shop”) derived from the name of the blast furnace where we work together, says electrician Sergey Kravchenko, – “We have a programmer, an electrician and a power equipment repair engineer in our team. We have different knowledge and skills in the professional field, but they are all applicable as part of the competition.

In total, participants had to complete three tasks: to create prototypes of working mechanisms using pneumatic and electro-pneumatic systems, programming using a controller. The prototype was built on a special simulator stand. For completion of each task they gave an hour and a half.

– We had a serious preparation for the competition. Before that, we had two workshops for two days. Although at work I constantly have to deal with automated systems, to monitor their work, but preparation was necessary. In mechatronics, everything depends on trifles – even if one controller differs from the one with which you usually work, then you need to completely build your model in a new way, ” – said Vladislav Dudchenko, instructor of the instrumentation and control equipment.

For the team it was the first experience of participation in such competitions.

— Such festivals and competitions are very necessary. Here you will learn something new from colleagues, develop as a person. We already have invaluable experience of participating in such competitions, we hope that next year it will come in handy for us, ” – concluded Alexander Oleinik, a foreman of power equipment repair.
