Zaporizhstal workers took part in the solemn meeting in honor of the 72nd anniversary of Victory

The meeting in honor of the 72nd anniversary of the Victory gathered hundreds of people of different ages on the Alley of Battle Glory. Special guests also came – veterans, who are now over 90 years old. Unfortunately, every year, people who fought in the Great Patriotic War becoming less and less, e.g. in our region there are 2090 people left.

The mayor Vladimir Buryak congratulated veterans, citizens and guests of the city, as well as representatives of the regional state administration and the regional council, the chairman of the council of the Zaporozhye city organization of veterans, Major-General Viktor Korolenko.

“We came here in order to pay tribute to the feat”, said Mayor Vladimir Buryak. – The war was hard, many millions died in it. The pages of this war also touched upon our city – this is the defense of Zaporozhye, evacuation, and liberation in 1943, and, of course, in May 1945. People gave their life in order we can have our today. Today our people in the East of the country are also defending the independence of our country, its indivisibility, and sovereignty.

Metallurgists also pay tribute to the veterans.

– 9th of May is a great day that our veterans, participants in military operations gave to us”, said Rostyslav Shurma, CEO of Zaporizhstal. They gave us our country, the opportunity to live and develop. Unluckily, our generation could not save this world. Now the main task of the younger generation is to restore peace, revive the economy and provide care and good life to our veterans. Dear veterans! Congratulations! Thank you for giving us life, country and freedom. Happy Victory Day!

People honored the memory of the dead heroes by minute of silence and laid flowers to the memorial in the Alley of Battle Glory. The right to be the first received lyceum students of the regional lyceum with enhanced military and physical training “Zahistnik”. The heads of the city and region, district administrations, representatives of enterprises, veteran and public organizations, and just residents of our city put flowers to the monument.
