This holiday is always celebrated in the peak of the building season. Summer is a favored time for building new buildings, carrying out repairs and doing reconstruction jobs. Every year installations at the Works were commissioned proving that the production facilities at Zaporizhstal are being modernized and the program for technical reconstruction is being carried out. Irrespective of the difficulties connected with the economic crisis the management of the Works is finding possibilities this year too to fulfill the most vital measures of the program on power saving.
Organization of all the new sites, reconstruction and capital repair of the main funds of the Works is the responsibility of the service for repair and capital construction, which includes the department for technical reconstruction of the main funds, capital construction department, chief mechanic’s department with all the repair shops, technical supervision department, repair of buildings and constructions, design work department and Central laboratory of mechanization and automation. The collectives of all these subdivisions belong to a rather powerful service headed by the deputy Technical Director for repairs and capital repair O.M. Klevtsov. All of them can be easily called builders.
All the buildings and capital repairs over more than 20 years have been carried out at the Works under the leadership of O. M. Klevtsov. Every event is preceded by a thorough preparatory work and the jobs are fulfilled under the sign of high reliability, because real professionals accomplish them. Here is what O.M. Klevtsov said, summing up the results dedicated to the Day of Builders.
– This year all the efforts of our service are concentrated on the construction of facilities which allow to reduce expenditures on production of the Works’ products, and also reduce its prime cost.
The most important among them is the construction of a complex which will allow to use pulverized coal in the production technology of pig iron instead of expensive natural gas. Secondly, the almost fulfilled task which is already bringing considerable economy, is the implementation of front jet-niche burners. All the jobs were accomplished by the workers of the repair shops (shop for repair of metallurgical equipment No.2 and repair building shop). 3,7 million UAH have been invested. A reserve air pipe line is still to be laid and another 650 000 UAH will be invested for that. The economy that has been received after implementing the new burners amounted to 4 million UAH, i.e. actually the money spent on the accomplishment of these measures has practically been paid off.
Construction of the PCI unit, a very important complex for the Works, has been entrusted to the general subcontractor SMU “Zaporozhzhstalstroy-1” JSC, which has a great experience in the construction of installations at metallurgical enterprises. SMU “Zaporozhstalstroy-1” is a large collective of experienced and highly qualified engineers and workers which have proved many times that it can fulfill the most complicated jobs.
Justice must be given to the general designer State enterprise “Ukrgipromez”, constant and reliable partner of the Works. Construction of the complex is being accomplished under its design practically according to a just-in-time system, which allows in tight deadlines to accomplish construction and erection jobs, and equipment assembly.
In the first 6 months 57 million UAH have been invested. By the end of the year it is planned to invest about 100 million UAH and in December start cold testing of the PCI unit. The PCI unit will be introduced stage by stage. Mastering of the unit will start from blast furnace No.2. It’s the closest one to the dust preparation section and its readiness to transfer to the new technology is much higher.
The main number of metal structures for the dust preparation department, and that’s more than 5 thousand tons, manufactured by the specialists of the Metal Structure Shop and SMU-1 have already been mantled. 1,5 thousand tons of metal structures still remain to be mantled. That’s frameworks and the air pipe line. All the necessary equipment from firm “Kuettner” has been delivered to the Works. It is being assembled according to the preparation of the field of operations.
At present a very complicated job is being done regarding piping of blast furnace No.2. Electrical installation jobs and jobs on instrumentation are gaining pace. All the processes on the new unit will be automated. SMU-1 will invite specialized organizations to accomplish all the jobs regarding automatic control systems. The other jobs will be done by their own forces.
Assembly of different equipment will be done by specialists from firm “Kuettner”. In particular for erection of the compressor station, consisting of 4 compressors, foreign specialists have been invited. This is a very complicated unit and the job is accomplished in a space-limited area. In general all construction works are accomplished in a space-limited area of operating production, making the job more complicated.
Irrespective of all the difficulties I wish all the builders optimism, health and belief that tomorrow will be better than yesterday because the plant has a large program on technical reconstruction. Thorough preparatory work is being done regarding the construction of the converter complex where experience and strength of thousands of specialist will be needed.
