NEWS

On the 24th-25th of September, 2013, Metinvest’s energy committee took place at “Zaporizhstal” Integrated Iron and Steel Works to check the functioning of the standard ISO 50001 at the Works as well as to exchange experience and to optimize the enterprises’ operation in order to decrease energy output ratio and to lower production cost price.

Within the work of the energy committee, representatives of four enterprises — “Azovstal Iron & Steel Works”, “Illyich Iron & Steel Works” of Mariupol, “Yenakiieve Steel Plant” and “Khartsyzsk Pipe Plant” had a look at the energy management system (EMS), functioning at the Works, visited three Works’ shops with the highest level of energy consumption and conducted internal energy audit, as well as got acquainted with the aspects of the Work’s operation, aimed at cut of energy resources consumption. Based on the audit results, our colleagues noted high level of the EMS’s correspondence to the international standard ISO 50001.

«We can see, that within this year there has been a significant breakthrough regarding cut of energy resources consumption at “Zaporizhstal” II&SW. Besides, there are also some measures, which have not yet been implemented at other enterprises of Metinvest Group. This know-how of the Works is very valuable and we are going to spread it. Particularly, the international standard ISO 50001, implemented at all of our enterprises, is best of all executed and supervised in its execution at “Zaporizhstal” Integrated Iron and Steel Works», pointed out head of the energy committee, Repairs and Investments Director of Metinvest Group’s Metallurgical division Sergei Baranov.

“We pay a lot of attention and apply comprehensive approach to the issues of energy saving at the Works. We really appreciate judgment and opinion of our colleagues from Metinvest Group, as it helps us to make sure that we chose the right path towards improvement of our enterprise’s operation efficiency”, pointed out the General Director of “Zaporizhstal” Integrated Iron and Steel Works Rostislav Shurma.

It should be noted that according to the results of 8 months of 2013 the Works achieved decrease in energy output ratio of products by 4.3 %, 21.7 gigajoules per tonne against to 22.7 gigajoules per tonne in 2012. The priority in reduction of fuel and energy resources at “Zaporizhstal” II&SW is given to natural gas and purchased electricity saving. The results of actions in this direction are proven by facts — over the period of 8 months of 2013 expenditures for fuel and energy resources decreased by more than 136 mln UAH, or 104 UAH per tonne of finished metal products.

Let us remind that in May, 2013, the Works was certified in compliance with the international standard ISO 50001. Auditors of «TЬV SЬD Ukraine» noted positively customized energy saving approach of “Zaporizhstal” II&SW and issued an international certificate, that confirms compliance of “Zaporizhstal” II&SW’s EMS with the requirements of standard ISO 50001.
