“ZAPORIZHSTAL” II&SW MINIMIZES INDUSTRIAL WASTE QUANTITY

NEWS

“Zaporizhstal” II&SW participated in a workshop on “Environmental and industrial safety in handling of production and consumption waste : current issues in 2013”, organized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Zaporizhzhya Regional Public Administration.

The event participants marked the positive experience of “Zaporizhstal” II&SW for handling of industrial production waste. Let’s remind you, that from August, 2012, the Works significantly intensified its efforts in production waste handling, which is realized according to the principles of Metinvest Group — an increase in the sales volumes of waste, its re-use in the production process, while reducing the quantity, the improvement of technological processes.

“The Works must continuously reduce the level of ecological impacts on the environment, and this also applies to waste. For instance, the plant increased sales volume of granulated slag for 7 months of 2013 — about 580 thousand tons, that is a 65% increase in shipments compared with the same period last year — 348 thousand tons, “- General Director Rostislav Shurma of ” Zaporizhstal” II&SW said.

As a result of the effective work of the recycling systems at the Works, for 7 months of 2013, about 70 thousand tons of iron-containing sludge had been trapped and returned to the production process, which was an additional source of raw materials. In addition, commissioning of sintering machine No.1 on the 16th of May, 2013, with high-technology gas cleaning equipment, along with a reduction in dust emissions, would allow to return back to the production process about 6 thousand tons of trapped iron-containing waste per year.
