“ZAPORIZHSTAL” STEEL WORKS – WINNER OF THE ALL-UKRAINIAN COMPETITION ON ECOLOGY

On the 15th of October, 2013, in Kyiv, they summarized the results of the 12th All-Ukrainian Competition entitled “The Ecological Quality and Safety”. “Zaporizhstal” II&SW became a winner in the nomination “Development of the Most Clean Production Processes”, as well as it has got a Diploma for introduction and realization of the energy-efficient, environmentally friendly and resource-saving programs and technologies in production.

“Zaporizhstal” II&SW within the strategy frameworks of Metinvest Group is implementing a large-scale production modernization program aimed at the replacement of fixed assets and processes with the advanced technologies in the field of ecology.

«It’s worth noting on that the investors — SCM, Metinvest — are doing nowadays — they understand the social and environmental responsibilities. With the President of Ukraine, we attended the opening ceremony of a new gas cleaning system of sinter machine No. 1 at “Zaporizhstal”. If all of the business is of same responsibility: socially and environmentally, the environmental problems will be solved not only at the enterprises, but also in the cities and regions where large enterprises are located», — the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine Oleg Proskuryakov noted.

In fulfilling its obligations under a trilateral agreement between JSC “Zaporizhstal” , the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine and Zaporizhzhya Regional Council, the Works, in May 2013, put into operation sintering machine No. 1 with a new high-tech gas treatment plant, the environmental effect of which is at the level of 10 % reduction of total emissions of dust and gas into atmosphere. Besides, the Works continues to implement some other major projects — the construction of a new gas treatment plant for sintering machine number 2, the erection of a new pickling line in Cold Rolling Mill Shop No. 1, which will permit to reduce emissions of sulfuric acid vapor by 83 %, and completely to eliminate the Works’ water discharge into the Dnieper River from the Cold Rolling Mill Shop.
