“ZAPORIZHSTAL” STEEL WORKS CONFIRMED COMPLIANCE WITH INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ISO 50001: 2011

April 27-28, 2015 the “Zaporizhstal” Steel Works has successfully passed the second supervisory audit for compliance with the international standard ISO 50001: 2011 “Energy management system – Requirements and application guideline”. Auditors of the company “TUV SUD” pointed out high performance level of energy management system in subdivisions of “Zaporizhstal” Steel Works.

During two days, audit experts of the company have checked functioning of the energy management system, energy savings values, and also evaluated processes that influence management and employee engagement, thanks to which high performance level is achieving. Auditors visited production departments of the plant, as well as Human Resources department, where they checked questions of personnel awareness and involvement in energy efficiency.

«Zaporizhstal» can be considered as an example of energy-efficient and responsible production – all implemented activities and plans of the Works tell about the large-scale and ongoing work in this direction. All these achievements would have been impossible without highly qualified staff, who supports its plant and works consciously and with maximum efficiency in order to achieve the goals”- Mikhail Levitsky General Director of LLC “Technical and management services” (corporate partner of TUV SUD) commented on results of the second supervisory audit.

Let us remark that from January till December, 2014 “Zaporizhstal” Steel Works against the background of increase of performance indicators (iron – by 9.1%, steel – by 3.8%, rolled products – by 5%) reduced natural gas consumption by 30 million cubic meters (or by 13%). “Zaporizhstal” Steel Works has reduced consumption of natural gas from 236 million cubic meters in 2013 to 206 million cubic meters in 2014. The Works achieved natural gas savings in 2014 through the introduction of energy efficiency measures at all production stages, three quarters of them are realized in steelmaking.

Let us remind that in 2013 according to audit results, carried out by a corporate partner the company “TUV SUD Ukraine” (Germany), “Zaporizhstal” Steel Works received an international certificate confirming energy management system compliance with the requirements of ISO 50001:2011.
