The 18th Championship of metallurgists and miners of Ukraine is over. Participants of the Championship competed in 9 competitive sports.
The all-team placing on the results of the Championship were determined according to the least number of points gained by the enterprises’ in 8 competitive sports.
Before the final stage of the Championship in draughts, chess and basketball which took place from 9-12 October in Mariupol, sportsmen of Zaporizhstal gained 11 points in 6 competitive sports.
Our main competitor was team MMK Ilyich who won 11 points but in 5 competitive sports. Thus 2 competitive sports were counted for Zaporizhstal and 3 for its competitors and our team had to beat the “Ilyichevsk” team by one point. Our draught and basketball players in a consistent struggle were able to win the 2 second places and gained 4 points and the Ilyichevsk team gained 5 points. As a result the all-team gained the less number of points and for the 16th time became the winner of the Championship of metallurgists and miners of Ukraine. The second was MMK Ilyich JSC — 16 points, the third was “Makeyevskiy Metallurgical Works” — 21 points.
