VICE PRIME MINISTER OF UKRAINE ALEXANDR VILKUL VISITED THE CONSTRUCTION SITE OF LARGE-SCALE INDUSTRIAL PROJECT OF INTEGRATED IRON AND STEEL WORKS “ZAPORIZHSTAL”

Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Alexandr Vilkul visited integrated iron and steel works Zaporizhstal on the 9th of August 2013. He conducted the business meeting on issues relating to attracting investments into industrial construction. The meeting was held at construction site of large-scale industrial construction project in Zaporozhye region – hydrochloric acid pickling complex of Cold Rolling Mills Shop No.1 of integrated iron and steel works “Zaporizhstal”.

The construction of new pickling room of integrated iron and steel works with conversion to hydrochloric acid pickling is the next stage of modernization of the works with due consideration of environmental concern. The implementation of this project is provided by trilateral agreement between integrated iron and steel works “Zaporizhstal”, Zaporozhye Regional Council and Ministry of the Environment and is directed to improvement of ecological situation in the region.

During his visit to the construction project of the new pickling line of integrated iron and steel works “Zaporizhstal” Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Alexandr Vilkul emphasized:

“The investments to the industrial construction in consequence of which the environmental emissions are decreased and the energy efficiency of production is increased add to competitive ability of Ukrainian manufacturers and guarantee the development of construction industry in future”.

CEO of integrated iron and steel works “Zaporizhstal” Rostislav Shurma informed Vice Prime Minister A. Vilkul about the process of overall modernization of the works, which is implemented as the part of the program of Metinvest Group. The General Director of integrated iron and steel works “Zaporizhstal” Rostislav Shurma emphasized:

“The construction of hydrochloric acid pickling line is very serious investment project the cost of which is 730 million UAH, and the efficiency of this measure is the decrease of sulfuric acid vapor emissions by 83% and complete elimination of emissions of Cold Rolling Mills Shop into the river Dnieper. The policy of environmental pressure decrease and simultaneous upgrading of the works efficiency are our major aims.”

We remind that beginning August 2012 large-scale investment projects have already been implemented at integrated iron and steel works “Zaporizhstal” – modern high-technology basic coal storage of pulverized coal injection complex in blast-furnace process was brought into operation. The full volume of investments into the implementation of PCI project amounted to about 1 billion UAH, including basic coal storage – 350 million UAH. The sinter machine No.1 with high-technology gas-cleaning equipment (investments into the project amounted to 240 million UAH) was also brought into operation. The solemn start-up of the new sinter machine with the participation of the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and the major shareholder of integrated iron and steel works Rinat Akhmetov was organized on the 16th of May 2013.

«We have the aim of gradual implementation of large-scale modernization projects at the enterprises of Metinvest, many of them presuppose major industrial construction. The competitive ability of iron and steel plants and their development in future depend on speed and quality of constructors’ work” – mentioned CEO of Metinvest Group Igor Syry.
