On December 17, 2018, a business forum, “ECO-transformation of Ukraine. Stakeholders of Green Change-2018 ” took place, in which the results of the contest “EKOTRANSFORMATION-2018” were summed up. They mentioned about the companies that are the environmental leaders of Ukraine. Zaporizhstal was recognized as the winner in the nomination “Leader of Comprehensive Green Modernization”.
The Zaporizhstal case was noted as one of the most successful examples of the system ecological modernization of a large metallurgical enterprise. The Works has allocated about UAH 9 billion of green investment to the environmental modernization of production facilities.
The sinter plant was completely reconstructed, all sintering machines are equipped with modern high-performance bag filters, which reduced dust emissions by 90% and sulfur oxides by 50%. Blast furnaces and aspiration systems of each BF have been modernized, which ensure dust removal up to 20 mg / m3. Rolling Mill production area is equipped with a unique, the only in Ukraine line of continuous pickling of rolled products, which allowed to completely abandon the dumping of pickling waters into the water basin.
The Works continues the modernization of working cycles with a gradual decrease in the intake and discharge of water into the water basins.
