Zaporizhstal, in accordance with the modernization program of the locomotive fleet, continues to re-motorize the company's rolling stock. The volume of investments in the modernization project of the Works’ locomotive traction is about UAH 50 million.

– The shortage of locomotive traction is one of the most acute issues for the Ukrainian industry, which has not been solved at the state level for many years. We found an economically sound solution when we re-engineered the first diesel locomotive in 2017 and developed a comprehensive program for the renewal of the locomotive fleet,” said Zaporizhstal General Director Rostyslav Shurma.
Three of the five TGM-4 machines planned for renovation for Zaporizhstal are being upgraded by the Nikolaev Diesel-Repair Plant, while one locomotive will undergo updates at a similar enterprise in Zaporozhye. Zaporizhstal will perform remotorization of one of the locomotives on its own. Thanks to remotorization, fuel consumption is reduced to 30%, and fuel & lubricants consumption is cut by 50%.
Locomotive remotorization involves replacing the engine with a new, more efficient engine produced by an American company. In the course of the repair, the team also upgrades the hydraulic transmission and wheel sets and strengthens the braking system. Particular attention will be paid to enhancing cabin protection from elevated temperatures and improving working conditions for personnel.
