A unique innovative testing range for the introduction of Building Information Modeling (BIM) took place in Kiev, where representatives from all over Ukraine took part. Aleksey Lebedev, Director of Capital Construction and Investments, presented the experience of “Zaporizhstal” Steel Works.
Aleksey Lebedev made a report “Positive and negative aspects of using BIM in large-scale investment projects”. Using the example of the successfully implemented “Zaporizhstal” case – a project for the ecological reconstruction of blast furnace No. 3, Aleksey Lebedev focused his colleagues’ attention on the high efficiency of the implemented solutions. The use of BIM-modeling allowed to combine 15 thousand 2D drawings, to eliminate more than 11 thousand errors at the design stage and to control the whole process of reconstruction later.
The complex of high-tech solutions allowed Zaporizhstal significantly reduce the period of ecological reconstruction of blast furnace No. 3 from 2 years to 8 months. Investments of the Steel Works in the project amounted to UAH 1.9 billion. Since 2012, “Zaporizhstal” has allocated UAH 9 billion for environmental modernization.
