“ZAPORIZHSTAL” AND “SIEMENS UKRAINE” DISCUSSED PROSPECTS FOR COOPERATION

Integrated Iron and Steel Works “Zaporizhstal” is undergoing a large-scale modernization, aimed at up-to-date, efficient and environmentally-friendly production. Considering Metinvest Group’s focus on implementation of new technologies and application of the world’s best production practices, a number of famous foreign and domestic companies offer the Works “Zaporizhstal” their best studies within the ongoing modernization. A meeting between the Works General Director Rostislav Shurma and the Chief Executive Officer of “Siemens Ukraine” Cornelius Granig was dedicated particularly to the issue of new technologies and prospects for cooperation.

During the meeting the sides discussed possibilities for closer cooperation and considered issues of importance related to current projects.

«We have already invested over 560 mln UAH into a fundamental modernization of the Works. Our current projects are the construction of a new pickling line, upcoming replacement of the open-hearth furnaces with basic oxygen furnace, and the construction of a new gas-cleaning equipment of the sinter machine No. 2. Large-scale and overall modernization of “Zaporizhstal” can only be done with application of advanced technologies. Thus we need the best suggestions and offers of technologies and equipment from both foreign and domestic partners», pointed out the General Director of “Zaporizhstal” Rostislav Shurma.

The Chief Executive Officer of “Siemens Ukraine” company Cornelius Granig emphasized that iron and steel industry is of top-priority both for Ukraine and for “Siemens AG” as well.

«We are happy to see the increase in investments into modernization of this key branch of industry, as it directly influences Ukraine’s success in years to come. “Siemens” and specifically its “Metal technologies division” is a leader in global innovations in metals sector. We have a good experience of working with Metinvest Group, which is represented by a number of large-scale projects, implemented at enterprises, controlled by Metinvest», — pointed out Cornelius Granig.
